How to pay UGC creators when your agency is not in the US

If you run a UGC agency outside the US, in Turkey, Germany, the Philippines, anywhere, paying creators is the operational problem nobody warns you about.

Stripe Connect, a common choice for US-based agencies, is only available to businesses in the countries Stripe supports. International bank wires usually carry fees at both ends and can take several business days. Slow or unclear payment is an easy way to lose a creator's goodwill. The four real options

Wise

A multi-currency business account that sends local-currency bank transfers. Wise Business charges a small fixed fee plus a variable percentage that depends on the currency (see Wise's business pricing). Check that each creator's country and currency are supported before you make it your default.

Payoneer

Payoneer is available in more than 190 countries and territories (see Payoneer's payments page), which makes it a fallback for creators Wise does not reach. Fees depend on how the creator withdraws the money, so read the fee table before you choose it.

Stripe Connect via a US entity

Stripe Connect lets a platform pay out to connected accounts. Your business has to be in a country Stripe supports, so check Stripe's country list first. A US company is one way to qualify if yours is not listed, with the setup and tax work that comes with it.

Crypto

Some creators accept stablecoin payments, which settle quickly and cost little to send. Tax treatment varies by country, so ask your accountant before you offer it.

Ask creators what they use

Before you commit to a method, ask each creator how they want to be paid and in which currency. Pick the method that covers most of your roster as the default, and keep a second one for the creators it does not reach.

The hidden cost: reconciliation

The actual problem with international payments is not the fee. It is the reconciliation. Imagine paying 30 creators a month from three different platforms. In a spreadsheet it is easy to pay someone twice or miss someone. The fix is one source of truth that answers "did I pay this person?" without searching three accounts.

The Turkey case

Turkey is not on Stripe's list of supported countries, so a Turkish agency cannot open a Stripe account directly. Wise can hold USD, which lets you receive dollars from brands and pay creators in dollars from the same account, subject to the account and tax rules that apply to you.

Final note

Paying on the date you promised is the simplest way to keep a creator willing to work with you again. A shared payment log does that job today: one row per creator and video, with the amount owed, the date paid and the method.
